Texas Injury Report: Will Texas slow down Kansas State’s offense?

In the Texas Longhorns’ last game against Oklahoma State, they suffered a couple of defensive back injuries. This includes redshirt sophomore CB Ryan Watts, freshman nickel CB Jaylon Guilbeau, and senior safety Anthony Cook.

Watts has been one of the starting outside corners for the Longhorns. He usually guards your boundary WR. He’s a 6 foot 3 inches CB. His skill set has proven to be valuable to the team, as he has accumulated 21 tackles and one interception this season.

During Texas’s loss to Oklahoma State, Watts suffered a hamstring strain. According to a report from Chip Brown of Horns247, Watts is scheduled to play this week against Kansas State. It’s been reported that Watts has been seen at practice this week.

Some people say slot or nickel CB is the most challenging position to play on the defensive side of the ball. You have to essentially guard a team’s most agile player with very little indication on what direction they’ll turn. But Guilbeau has shown flashes that he could be an answer for Texas in that position. He has 17 tackles and two pass deflections on the season.

According to a report from Eric Nahlin of Inside Texas, an undisclosed injury has Guilbeau “expected to miss some time.” With his foreseen lengthy absence, Texas can be in for a long day against a ranked Kansas State squad.

Longhorn starting safety Anthony Cook was having a great senior season with 28 tackles, one forced fumble, and two pass deflections before breaking his forearm. Originally it was believed that Cook suffered a season-ending injury. But, after more tests, the team is optimistic he can return in late November.
