The TCU Horned Frogs have defined Cinderella’s story this season. This is the first year with its head coach Sonny Dykes, and they went 12-1. The Horned Frogs’ only loss came in the Big 12 Championship game against Kansas State, which dropped them to the third-ranked team in the nation. But, throughout the season, the team has faced adversity, and they’ve just seemed to overcome it.
Many scouts consider wide receiver Quentin Johnston the best wide receiver in the 2023 draft. His 6’ 4 frame and ability to make contested catches have much to do with that. Johnston didn’t have a game over 50 yards until the team’s fifth game against Kansas, where he erupted for 206 yards. Johnston has totaled 903 yards and five touchdowns on the season.
But Johnston suffered an undisclosed injury that hampered him against Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship game. Johnston is reportedly probable to play in the Fiesta Bowl against Michigan and is close to 100%.
“Our guys just never quit, they just believe in each other,” Dykes said.
Johnston will look to continue building on his connection with his quarterback Max Duggan, who’s helped TCU average the sixth-best scoring offense in the country (40.3 points per game). Duggan threw 30 touchdowns and just four interceptions this season.
“He’s one of the best players in the country leading one of the best teams in the country,” Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said. “Tremendous competitor. He’s so productive. Total offense and leadership and everything. You can tell he’s on a mission.”
Michigan is favored by 7.5 points against TCU, and the over/under is 58.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
