Sam LaPorta Knee Injury Update

Sam LaPorta - SIC score 35

Updated 7 Jan 11.47am PST - La Porta has been downgraded to OUT.

LaPorta, the Lions star rookie tight end was carted to the locker room after walking off the field in the Lions game against the Vikings late in the second quarter.

By video it appears to be an LCL sprain with associated damage to posterolateral corner of his left knee, according to Pro Football Doc, Dr. David Chao.

La Porta is listed as questionable to return but he will not return and his playoff availability is in doubt as this is likely a multi-week issue.

LaPorta had five receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown, setting the Lions franchise record for most receptions in a season by a tight end before leaving the field. Entering Week 18, he had 81 catches for 860 yards and nine touchdowns.

If LaPorta cannot return for the playoffs, the Lions will be hoping TE2 Brock Wright who has missed the last three games with an injury can be ready.

#Lions Pro Bowl TE Sam LaPorta suffered a hyperextended knee and a bone bruise, source said after the MRI. He’s likely to miss some time, but as coach Dan Campbell said, not as bad as it could’ve been.

Lions TE Sam LaPorta was slow to get up after the previous play. He was able to walk off the field on his own strength.
