Sam Hartman Injury: Wake Forest QB Returns Against Vanderbilt

The Demon Deacons are overjoyed that not only does their star quarterback return, but he’s been medically cleared after surgery. On Aug. 10, he was sidelined indefinitely with an undisclosed medical condition.
This week, we discovered that Sam Hartman was diagnosed with Paget-Schroetter syndrome, also known as effort thrombosis. He got a blood clot removed and was taking blood thinners after surgery. But, his follow-up ultrasound was clean, and he’s been taken off the blood thinners.
The surgery was minor and he will be fully healthy upon return, according to the Pro Football Docs. Look for him to have more rust in his return than medical limitations.
The 23-year-old said this to the media during his first press conference: “There will be time for me to tell my complete story, but right now, I am just excited to get back on the field with my teammates.”
Last season, Hartman played 14 games and threw for 4,228 yards with 50 total touchdowns. He’s a three-year starter and is in his final year of eligibility. Hartman had 30 votes in the ACC PoY preseason poll, behind only NC State QB Devin Leary coming into this season.
Hartman returning to Wake Forest should give them a better chance to win the ACC title. They are currently a +1700, the 5th-best odds to win ACC on FanDuel.
