Rookie RB Kyren Williams Suffers Likely Jones Fracture At Rams OTAs

Los Angeles Rams rookie RB Kyren Williams isn’t off to a great start in the NFL after suffering a broken foot at OTAs, with the injury requiring surgery.
While there is optimism coming from Rams Head coach Sean McVay, who anticipates Williams returning in the early part of July, we are a skeptical of the reported timeline.
Due to Williams’ broken foot coming in non-contact fashion, the issue is likely a Jones’ fracture. When a non-contact foot injury happens, there’s typically not enough force to cause a Lisfranc or mid-foot type injury.
The timing of the injury isn't ideal as it will be very difficult for Williams to return in time for any offseason programs or Week 1. It would not be a surprise if the Notre Dame product started the season on the PUP list.
It will likely be a lost season for the newest Rams’ RB. Williams will miss valuable learning opportunities in camp, with most rookies maximizing offseason work by getting acquainted with the system and plays of their new team.
Williams will be back in 2022, but Week 1 is unlikely, and the Rams don’t have to rush back their newest weapon. Even though Los Angeles moved up in the fifth found in April’s NFL draft to select Williams 164th overall, he is expected to be the Rams third back behind RBs Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson.
