The Atlanta Braves placed right fielder Ronald Acuña Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring after he exited Saturday night’s game against the Colorado Rockies. An MRI revealed Acuña suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain, the least severe classification but still an injury that can linger if a player returns too quickly.
Ronald Acuña Jr. Hamstring Injury
Acuña left the game in the second inning after pulling up about halfway down the first-base line while running out a ground ball. He immediately grabbed his left hamstring before exiting.
The Braves later confirmed the injury and moved Acuña to the injured list, interrupting what had been a fully available start to his season.
Braves Injury Impact
Acuña, the 2023 National League MVP, is batting .252 this season with two home runs and nine RBIs. He had played in every game this season before landing on the IL.
The injury is notable given Acuña’s recent history. He tore his ACL in 2024 and was limited to 144 games over the past two seasons, making any lower-body setback worth monitoring.
SIC Medical Analysis
A Grade 1 hamstring strain is usually considered mild, but for an explosive player like Acuña, the Braves will likely be cautious. Hamstring injuries can affect sprinting, acceleration and outfield range, all key parts of Acuña’s game.
The biggest concern is recurrence. If Acuña returns before the hamstring is fully healed, even a mild strain can worsen and lead to a longer absence.
