Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny suffered a fractured fibula in his left leg in the 39-32 loss to the Saints.
The injury is season-ending and will likely require surgery, according to the Pro Football Docs.
Even though the fibula is the smaller bone, the injury is not less severe, according to the Pro Football Docs. The news of a fibula break means there's likely ligament involvement.
The ligament repair is what will require the most recovery time. Either way, Kenneth Walker III will take over as the lead running back.
Penny suffered the injury on a six-yard carry early in the third quarter. He had his left leg landed on and scooted his way to the sideline before he was carted to the locker room.
He left the locker room on crutches and in a boot.
Penny had 8 carries for 54 yards before exiting. The injury comes one week after he had a career game, rushing for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Lions.
If he is out for the season, as the Pro Football Docs project, he will finish with 346 yards on 57 carries.
Last season, he had 119 carries for 749 yards and 6 touchdowns. Penny is a free agent in the offseason.
DeeJay Dallas will likely mix in for receiving work.
The Seahawks play the Cardinals in Seattle next week.
