Pat Freiermuth Injury: Steelers' TE Escapes Serious Knee Injury in Week 18

Update: Freiermuth suffered an isolated MCL sprain which does not require surgery, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. This is great news for the second-year tight end, who will be fully healthy by the start of next season.

Pittsburgh tight end Pat Freiermuth suffered an apparent left knee injury in the fourth quarter of the Steelers' season finale victory.

Based on enhanced video of the injury, the Pro Football Docs have a strong worry that the second-year tight end suffered a torn ACL when he lost his footing and fell awkwardly while blocking.

Freiermuth went to the blue medical tent and was carted off before being ruled out.

Mike Tomlin didn't have any post-game updates after the Steelers were eliminated from playoff contention.

The 24-year-old had 63 receptions for 732 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games this season and missed one contest after he suffered his third concussion in Week 5.
