On Tuesday, the Oklahoma State Cowboys will face the Wisconsin Badgers at 10:15 p.m. in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. This will be the first game this season between the two squads. The Cowboys are 7-5 going into the matchup. But there will be a couple of key players.
Quarterback Spencer Sanders, who nearly led the Cowboy to the College Football Playoffs last season, has decided to enter the transfer portal. He has been the quarterback at Oklahoma State for the past four seasons. He’s the team leader in passing yards and touchdowns this season.
Garret Rangel started two games this season, with Sanders battling an injury. He has thrown for 482 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.
The Cowboys also have Gunnar Gundy, son of coach Mike Gundy, who has played sparingly throughout the season. He has thrown for 247 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions.
The Cowboys have also lost their leading tackler, linebacker Mason Cobb. He had 96 stops this year.
Another player lost to the portal for Oklahoma state is its leading rusher Dominic Richardson who had 543 rushing yards on the season.
Head Coach Mike Gundy talked about the importance of this matchup even after multiple players opted out of the game.
“Every game we play is important,” Gundy told reporters. “And I’ve always said this, and we try to instill basic values and core principles in our team from Day One. It doesn’t make a difference who we are playing, where we are playing, what the records are, we’re playing in a game.”
Wisconsin is favored by 3.5 points against Oklahoma State, and the over/under is 43.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
