When the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes walk onto the field in the Georgia Dome for the Peach Bowl, it will have been 35 days since the team’s last game. This would have given them five weeks to get healthy for the team’s matchup against No. 1 Georgia.
The team has battled injuries all season in its cornerback and running back rooms. There has been blow after blow, and it’s challenging to keep up with who will be active in each of the team’s games. Sometimes a player might leave in a walking boot after suffering a minor injury, while others might leave on crutches. Luckily for the Buckeyes, the 35 days of rest will be beneficial.
Over the last few weeks, there hasn’t been much coverage on the Ohio State cornerback trio of Cam Brown, Jordan Hancock, and Denzel Burke. This indicates that the pair of corners is trending towards all being active versus Georgia.
Even though Georgia’s top three pass catchers are a tight end, wide receiver, and a running back, the Ohio State cornerback trio can still help by matching up man to man. This will help open up the Ohio State defense by allowing the safeties to cover the tight end and running backs, who should get most of the targets in the Georgia passing game.
Running back TreVeyon Henderson, a preseason All-American, will miss the Peach Bowl after undergoing foot surgery. The running back has been in and out of the lineup all season.
Luckily, for the Buckeyes, running back Miyan Williams is expected to play this week after battling an ankle injury that made him miss most of the team’s loss against Michigan. Earlier this week, Williams was supposed to talk to the media, but fellow running back Chip Traynum was sent out instead.
“Miyan's good,” Trayanum said. “He's just a little under the weather right now. He's straight. He's going to be ready to go.”
Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said Willimas had had a strong week of practice and that he expects him to play.
Lastly, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has opted out of playing in the college football playoff. He’s battled a hamstring injury all season and is preparing for the NFL draft.
Georgia is favored by 7.5 points against Ohio State, and the over/under is 58.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
