Najee Harris (Los Angeles Chargers)
Injury: Torn Achilles
Harris suffered a non-contact Achilles tear in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos after planting awkwardly on his left leg.
The injury ended his season almost immediately and came after an eventful offseason in which he was already on the Non-Football Injury list due to a Fourth of July fireworks accident that caused an eye injury. Achilles injuries are notoriously difficult for running backs to overcome, making Harris one of the biggest recovery stories entering the 2026 season.
James Conner (Arizona Cardinals)
Injury: Ankle Injury (Season-Ending Surgery)
Conner suffered a serious ankle injury in Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers when his leg became trapped underneath a defender while fighting through contact.
The injury required surgery and ended his season after just three games. Conner's recovery timeline will be closely monitored as Arizona evaluates its backfield heading into 2026.
Trey Benson (Arizona Cardinals)
Injury: Torn Meniscus
Benson suffered a torn meniscus during Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.
He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery shortly afterward but never progressed enough in his recovery to return during the season. Arizona officially ruled him out on December 10 after appearing in just four games.
With both Benson and James Conner coming off significant injuries, the Cardinals enter the offseason with major questions surrounding their running back room.
Cam Skattebo (New York Giants)
Injury: Open Ankle Dislocation + Fibula Fracture + Deltoid Ligament Rupture
Skattebo suffered one of the most severe injuries of the NFL season in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles on October 26.
The rookie sustained an open ankle dislocation, fractured fibula, and ruptured deltoid ligament. The injury was classified as a compound fracture, with the bone piercing through the skin. Emergency surgery was performed in Philadelphia that same night.
Skattebo missed the final nine games of the season and now faces an extensive rehabilitation process as he attempts to return for 2026.
Quinshon Judkins (Cleveland Browns)
Injury: Fractured Fibula + Dislocated Ankle
Judkins suffered a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle in Week 16 against the Buffalo Bills on December 21.
The injury resulted in an immediate cart-off and ended a promising rookie campaign. Prior to the injury, Judkins accumulated 947 scrimmage yards in just 13 games and appeared poised for a significant role moving forward.
Unlike Skattebo's injury, the fracture remained closed, avoiding some of the additional complications associated with compound fractures.
Jonathon Brooks (Carolina Panthers)
Injury: Torn ACL (Second ACL Tear in 13 Months)
Brooks was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list before the 2025 season began while continuing his recovery from another ACL tear.
The injury marked his second torn ACL within a 13-month span after also missing the majority of his rookie season in 2024 with the same injury. As a result, Brooks has yet to truly establish himself at the NFL level despite entering the league with significant expectations.
His long-term durability remains one of the biggest questions facing Carolina's offense.
J.K. Dobbins
Injury: Foot Injury
Dobbins was placed on season-ending injured reserve due to a foot injury.
Further details surrounding the injury and recovery timeline remain limited, but the setback adds another chapter to a career that has been repeatedly impacted by significant injuries. His status for the start of the 2026 season will be worth monitoring throughout the offseason.
