New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered his latest concussion during the Week 10 matchup against the Chicago Bears. Late in the third quarter, Dart lost a fumble after taking a hard hit to the head and struggled to get up before being evaluated by medical staff. Though he initially remained on the field for two more plays, the Giants pulled him between quarters, confirming a concussion diagnosis and ruling him out for the remainder of the game.

Dart’s concussion suffered on Sunday November 10 is especially notable given what happened in Week 6, when he was evaluated for a potential head injury after a sack prompted him to grab at his helmet on the turf, leading the NFL to review whether the Giants properly followed concussion protocol.

During that evaluation, head coach Brian Daboll briefly looked into the medical tent and rookie running back Cam Skattebo entered as well, actions the league said created the appearance of interference. The NFL ultimately fined the Giants $200,000, Daboll $100,000, and Skattebo $15,000 for violating protocol procedures. While Dart does not have a confirmed prior concussion on record, his recent exposure to repeated head-injury evaluations adds context and scrutiny to how today’s concussion will be managed.

Dart’s Concussion History in the NFL

This recent incident marks Dart’s fourth time being evaluated for a concussion since joining the Giants, including one during his preseason debut and three additional scares over seven regular season starts. While only the Week 10 incident has been confirmed as a concussion this year, his playing style and repeated exposure to head trauma have raised concerns among medical staff and league observers. Prior to his NFL career, Dart’s college injury record did not publicly detail multiple concussions, making his current frequency notable.

Impact on the Giants and Next Steps

With Dart heading into concussion protocol and backup Russell Wilson at the helm, the Giants will need to closely monitor their star rookie’s health and recovery. Questions regarding both Dart’s durability and the coaching staff’s protection of their quarterback have intensified as a result of his repeated head injuries.

League policy requires Dart to clear a five-step concussion protocol and receive clearance from both Giants team physicians and an independent neurological consultant before resuming practice or gameplay. No timeline has been set for his return and Dart’s status for Week 11 against the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium remains uncertain.
