Now into the new calendar year, the NBA season officially turns the corner from early-season rhythm to the grind that tests depth, durability, and decision-making. As teams pivot toward the heart of the schedule, injury management becomes just as important as matchup strategy making this the point where availability, not just talent, starts to define contenders and pretenders.
Trae Young - Washington Wizards
Fresh off the trade to the Wizards, Young may not play for a while yet as he is managing a quadriceps injury.
Anthony Davis - Dallas Mavericks
Sustained a hand injury that involved ligament damage in his left (non-shooting) hand, if surgery is required he could miss several months. He is seeking a second opinion on the matter.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. - Miami Heat
Will miss his second straight game with an ankle injury. The Heat may be taking a cautious approach with his recovery so a timeline is unavailable at this time.
Victor Wembanyama - San Antonio Spurs
Is recovering quickly from his hyperextended knee from his past weekend. Wembanyama went through 5-on-5 portions of practice Monday, and he'll be re-evaluated following Tuesday's morning shootaround. He might still miss some time, but it looks like he’s recovering at a good pace.
Jaylin Williams - Oklahoma City Thunder
Williams has been out with a heel injury. Williams, who will be held out for an 11th straight game Monday, remains without an official timetable to return. He can be considered doubtful for future contests until the team releases an update.
Christian Braun - Denver Nuggets
Missed Monday’s game with an ankle injury. After an extended absence due to a left ankle sprain, Braun made his first appearance since Nov. 12 in Sunday's loss to the Nets, finishing with three points (1-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds and one block over 24 minutes. The Nuggets will hold him out for the second leg of a back-to-back set as a precaution, however. Expect Braun to return to action Wednesday in Boston.
Cedric Coward - Memphis Grizzlies
Coward landed on an opposing player's foot and injured his left ankle after playing just under 13 minutes. He finished with 16 points (6-9 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and one steal. Despite not playing at all in the second half, the rookie first-rounder still ended the game as Memphis' second-leading scorer.
