In this week’s MLB injury report, we break down the latest updates from around the league, including notable injured list moves, recovery timelines, and what each absence could mean for teams moving forward.
Thursday, April 23rd
Gerrit Cole - New York Yankees
Cole allowed two runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings in his second straight rehab start Thursday night for Class A Hudson Valley. The right-hander struck out four, walked none and threw 42 of his 52 pitches for strikes.
Francisco Lindor - New York Mets
Lindor on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain. Lindor exited Wednesday’s game against the Twins after scoring in the fourth inning. He underwent an MRI on Thursday and was later placed on the injured list.
Spencer Strider - Atlanta Braves
Strider struck out eight and allowed just one hit and one walk over 4 1/3 scoreless innings in a rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Gwinnett.
Wednesday, April 22nd
Wyatt Langford - Texas Rangers
Langford was placed on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 1 flexor strain after leaving his previous game with right forearm tightness. Manager Skip Schumaker said Texas does not expect Langford to miss more than the minimum time.
Francisco Lindor - New York Mets
Lindor was removed with left calf tightness after scoring from first base in the fourth inning, and manager Carlos Mendoza said he will undergo an MRI on Thursday.
J.T. Realmuto - Philadelphia Phillies
Realmuto has been placed on the 10-day injured list with back spasms after dealing with back pain that forced him to leave Saturday’s game against the Braves and miss the next two contests.
Blake Snell - Los Angeles Dodgers
Snell threw 32 pitches, including 21 strikes, over one-plus innings in his first game action of the year with Single-A Ontario. The Dodgers want Snell built up to about five innings and 75 pitches before he becomes an option to return.
Tuesday, April 21st
Wyatt Langford - Texas Rangers
Langford exited Tuesday night’s win over the Pirates with right forearm stiffness after feeling tightness on a swing. He left after the fourth inning and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday.
Jackson Holliday - Baltimore Orioles
Holliday suffered another setback Tuesday after being removed from Triple-A Norfolk’s game because of right hand discomfort. The Orioles are bringing Holliday to Baltimore for an MRI as he continues working back from a fractured hamate bone.
Sonny Gray - Boston Red Sox
Gray was placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with a right hamstring strain.
Juan Soto - New York Mets
Soto is expected to come off the injured list Wednesday for the Mets. Manager Carlos Mendoza said Soto is expected to split time between designated hitter and left field in his first two games back.
Raisel Iglesias - Atlanta Braves
Iglesias was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday after experiencing right shoulder discomfort that began Friday night. The team said an MRI showed no structural damage.
Zack Wheeler - Philadelphia Phillies
Wheeler will return to the rotation Saturday in Atlanta after missing time since August because of a blood clot near his right shoulder that led to thoracic outlet surgery.
Monday April 20th
Edwin Diaz - Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers placed Díaz on the 15-day injured list Monday with loose bodies in his right elbow. Reports say he could be out up to three months. Díaz has four saves and 10 strikeouts but a 10.50 ERA after allowing three runs without recording an out Sunday at Colorado.
Sonny Gray - Boston Red Sox
Gray exited Monday’s Patriots’ Day game against the Tigers in the third inning with right hamstring tightness. Manager Alex Cora said Gray will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, though the team does not believe the injury is serious.
Corbin Carroll - Arizona Diamondbacks
Carroll left Sunday’s game against the Blue Jays with low back tightness, but Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said the issue is not believed to be serious. Arizona is off Monday, and Lovullo expects Carroll to be back in right field Tuesday against the White Sox.
Zack Wheeler - Philadelphia Phillies
Wheeler made his fifth rehab start Sunday with Double-A Reading and may be nearing a return. Phillies manager Rob Thomson said there is still enough time left in Wheeler’s 30-day rehab window for him to make a sixth rehab start if needed.
Mick Abel - Minnesota Twins
The Twins placed Abel on the 15-day injured list Monday with right elbow inflammation, retroactive to Friday. Abel is 1-2 with a 3.98 ERA in four appearances, including three starts.
Joey Loperfido - Houston Astros
The Astros placed outfielder Loperfido on the 10-day injured list with a right quad strain after he was injured in Friday’s loss to the Cardinals. Loperfido was batting .259 with six RBIs in 20 games this season.
Tatsuya Imai - Houston Astros
Imai has resumed playing catch as he works back from right arm fatigue, but he said he does not yet know when he will return to the mound. The Astros said imaging on his shoulder and arm came back clean, so the focus now is on rebuilding arm strength.
Sunday April 19th
Jhoan Duran - Philadelphia Phillies
Duran has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique. Duran said the injury is very mild and occurred during a side session Friday, and he underwent an MRI on Saturday morning.
Gerrit Cole - New York Yankees
Cole’s first rehab start since Tommy John surgery went well, as he allowed three runs on three hits over 4 1/3 innings for Double-A Somerset while throwing 36 of 44 pitches for strikes. Most importantly, he came out of the outing healthy, and his next start is expected to come at either Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre or High-A Hudson Valley.
Brent Rooker - Athletics
Rooker was placed on the 10-day injured list after an MRI revealed a right oblique strain. He suffered the injury after fouling off a pitch in the first inning of Thursday’s game against the Yankees.
Spencer Strider - Atlanta Braves
Strider took another step toward returning to Atlanta’s rotation by throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts in his first rehab start for High-A Rome. Strider is working back from an oblique strain and is expected to make at least a few more rehab starts, with early May still a possible return target.
Zach McKinstry - Detroit Tigers
McKinstry on the 10-day injured list with left hip abdominal inflammation, retroactive to April 16. Manager A.J. Hinch said McKinstry was feeling better Friday, but the team still needs additional evaluations before determining when he can resume baseball activities.
Jorge Polanco - Philadelphia Phillies
Polanco was placed on the 10-day injured list ahead of Saturday’s game against the Cubs with a right wrist contusion, retroactive to Wednesday. Polanco had also been playing through left Achilles bursitis since March before the latest setback.
José Buttó - San Francisco Giants
Buttó underwent a second surgery Friday to repair the axillary artery in his upper right arm, an injury that carries a five- to six-month recovery timeline. His availability for the rest of the 2026 season is now in doubt, though manager Tony Vitello has not officially ruled him out for the year.
