As injuries continue to impact contenders across Major League Baseball, several stars are dealing with setbacks that could affect division races, fantasy baseball lineups and return timelines entering the week of May 24. Here is the latest on some of the league’s biggest injuries, including key updates, expected absences and Pro Football Doc analysis.

Friday, May 29th

Munetaka Murakami - Chicago White Sox

Munetaka Murakami left Friday’s series opener against the Tigers at Rate Field with right hamstring tightness after beating out a one-out fielder’s choice grounder to second in the third inning. He is undergoing further evaluation, according to the White Sox.cMurakami, Chicago’s first baseman, had appeared in all 57 games this season before exiting. He appeared to grab at his right hamstring and wince while walking back to first base.

Casey Mize - Detroit Tigers

Mize was placed on the injured list with right adductor inflammation after exiting Wednesday’s start against the Angels because of groin discomfort. The injury is similar to one that previously sidelined Mize earlier this season.

Eury Perez - Miami Marlins

Pérez is expected to miss approximately two months after suffering a high-grade strain of his right gracilis muscle while stretching in the dugout during Wednesday’s start against the Blue Jays. Pérez exited after four scoreless innings when his right hamstring area spasmed during lateral lunges, and subsequent imaging revealed the injury on the inside of his thigh.

Thursday, May 28th

Kenley Jansen - Detroit Tigers

Jansen was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday with pelvic inflammation after exiting Wednesday’s game against the Angels in the ninth inning. The 38-year-old has recorded seven saves this season while battling inconsistency, including three walk-off home runs allowed since April 24.

Konnor Griffin - Pittsburgh Pirates

Griffin was held out of Thursday’s game against the Cubs because of right forearm soreness. The team considers Griffin day to day and said he was available if needed.

Max Scherzer - Toronto Blue Jays

cherzer is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday as he works his way back from forearm tendinitis and ankle inflammation. The veteran has been on the injured list since April 25 and recently faced live hitters as the next step in his recovery.

Wednesday, May 27th

Brandon Marsh - Philadelphia Phillies

Marsh exited the Phillies’ game against the Padres with a right middle finger sprain suffered while diving back into first base on a pickoff attempt in the first inning. Marsh was out of Wednesday’s lineup after exiting Tuesday’s win over the Padres with a right middle finger sprain, though the Phillies remain optimistic he will return Friday against the Dodgers.

Kike Hernandez - Los Angeles Dodgers

Hernández is expected to return to the injured list after exiting Tuesday’s win over the Rockies with a left oblique strain. Hernández had only recently returned from offseason elbow surgery and reportedly aggravated his side during batting practice before making his season debut Monday.

Logan Henderson - Milwaukee Brewers

Henderson was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a low back strain. Henderson has posted a 2.23 ERA across 10 MLB starts over the past two seasons but has continued to deal with durability issues after missing the final two months of last year with right elbow inflammation.

Logan Webb - San Francisco Giants

Webb is expected to return from the injured list Friday night against the Rockies after missing time with right knee bursitis, manager Tony Vitello said Tuesday.

Hunter Greene - Cincinnati Reds

Greene threw his first bullpen session Tuesday without complications as he continues recovering from injury. Manager Terry Francona said Greene threw approximately 15-20 pitches, with the club still targeting a return sometime in July.

Tuesday, May 26th

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. - Toronto Blue Jays

Guerrero Jr. was out of the Blue Jays’ lineup Tuesday after missing a second straight game with a right elbow contusion suffered when he was hit by a pitch Sunday against the Pirates. Guerrero immediately exited the game after being struck by a sinker from Mitch Keller.

Aaron Civale - Athletics

Civale is expected to be placed on the injured list after exiting Monday’s loss to the Mariners with what appears to be an issue involving his right shoulder or lat, according to manager Mark Kotsay. Civale is scheduled to undergo further testing on Tuesday morning.

Jung Hoo Lee - San Francisco Giants

Lee was placed on the 10-day injured list with a mid-back strain after experiencing back spasms during the Giants’ series against the Diamondbacks. Manager Tony Vitello said Lee first felt a “pinch” in his back during pregame work earlier in the week before aggravating it during Monday’s game.

Matthew Boyd - Chicago Cubs

Boyd is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Sunday as he works his way back from knee surgery. Boyd has been sidelined since May 4 after tearing the meniscus in his left knee.

Monday, May 25th

Dylan Cease - Toronto Blue Jays

Cease was placed on the 15-day injured list with a mild left hamstring strain after exiting Sunday’s game against the Pirates in the fifth inning. Cease briefly remained in the game after being checked by the training staff before being removed following the next batter.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. - Toronto Blue Jays

Guerrero Jr. exited after being hit on the right elbow by a pitch from Mitch Keller, but X-rays came back negative and the Blue Jays later diagnosed the injury as a contusion. Manager John Schneider said Guerrero experienced numbness in his arm and hand after the hit-by-pitch.

Max Muncy - Los Angeles Dodgers

Muncy likely will not need a CT scan on his right wrist after showing improvement over the past 24 hours. Muncy missed Monday's game and will not be available until Wednesday, according to Dave Roberts.

Garrett Crochet - Boston Red Sox

Crochet is scheduled to throw live batting practice at Fenway Park on Tuesday as he continues progressing from shoulder inflammation. Crochet has already completed four bullpen sessions since landing on the injured list April 29.

Gleyber Torres - Detroit Tigers

Torres said Sunday that his left oblique strain has not fully healed and that he will pause swinging activities as he continues his recovery. Torres has been on the injured list since May 4 after suffering the injury during a game against the Rangers.
