Mississippi State starting left tackle Kwatrivous Johnson didn’t play in last week’s game versus Arkansas after rehabbing an ankle injury. Johnson suffered the ankle injury in a 45-14 victory against Bowling Green. During this week’s game, Johnson was on the sideline with crutches and wearing a boot on his left leg. His head coach, Mike Leach, talked about Johnson’s injury to reporters after the game:
“Well, Dollar Bill’s healthy as a horse and nearly superhuman,” Leach said. “So the dimension of that, I think, is tough to unfold in a place like this without some scientists and genetic specialists. But he’s doing exactly what we want him to do and doing great.”
Last season, Johnson appeared in 11 games with eight starts at right guard. His position versatility has always been a positive for the Bulldogs. In his absence, the team only allowed two sacks, but visiting a heavy blitzing Kentucky Wildcats squad could change that favorable outcome.
Reserve linebacker DeShawn Page underwent surgery on his left leg, effectively ending his season for the Bulldogs. He posted a message on his social media.
Before the injury, Page had nine tackles this season and 11 tackles last season.
Will Levis missed last week’s game against South Carolina after injuring his ankle, which caused him to be in a boot. He also dislocated a finger on his non-throwing hand. But he returned after getting the finger put back in place.
Levis is likely to suit up this week against Mississippi State, according to the College Football Docs.
Levis being out surprised many college football fans because his ankle injury versus Ole miss was undisclosed. The team confirmed that Levis was out just 15 minutes before kickoff.
The Wildcats lost to the Gamecocks 24-14 without Levis. His leadership and big play ability seemed to be missing in a tough SEC matchup. But, luckily for Kentucky hopefuls, Levis appears on track to play this weekend. Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops said to reporters, “Right now, it seems like he’ll be healthy, barring any setbacks,” said Stoops.
Before getting injured, Levis threw for 1,405 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions.
Kentucky wide receiver Dane Key seemed to suffer a wrist/hand injury in last week’s game versus Arkansas. He was unable to haul in a pass from backup quarterback Kaiya Sheron. He walked to the sideline, grabbing his wrist in pain.
While speaking to the media on Tuesday after practice, Key had a wrap on his right wrist and hand. He told reporters, “My hand is feeling really good, this is all just to protect it a little bit more.”
Furthermore, Key confirmed that there was no structural damage to the hand and that the wrap could come off before the game on Saturday, according to SI.com.
Before getting injured, Key was having a good year hauling in 19 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns.
Tayvion Robinson is another Kentucky wide receiver battling an injury after Saturday’s game against Arkansas. He went down in the third quarter with an undisclosed injury and did not return to the contest. Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops had no update on Robinson at his press conference on Monday.
