Last season in the College Football Playoffs, the Michigan Wolverines lost to the eventual National Champion Georgia 34-11. The Wolverines would bounce back this season by going undefeated in the regular season and winning the Big Ten Championship to advance to their second-straight appearance in the College Football Playoffs. This year the team will face TCU (12-1). But Michigan's magical ride this season hasn't come without some injuries and critical changes.
"I think this team — since day one, it's really just about 'going to do my best today," Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said. "And that's how they approached each day, going back to winter conditioning, spring ball, training camp, and throughout the season."
The Michigan Wolverines will be without star running back Blake Corum for the CFB playoffs. Corum suffered a knee injury on Nov.19 and decided to opt out of the CFB playoffs to let his knee heal. This season, Corum became a household name by getting some Heisman buzz while he was healthy.
When Corum was healthy, he rushed for 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns. But, since Corum's been injured, sophomore Donovan Edwards has been getting more reps and totaled 401 yards over the last two games.
"That's what I'm here for. I'm here to play in the big games," Edwards said.
In the Big Ten Championship, Edwards wished for 185 yards as the Wolverines lead back. So, Corum's injury shouldn't hamper Michigan significantly.
"Everybody works hard. We're all humble. Everybody wants everybody to get better," Edwards said. "There's no selfishness on this team. Everybody is disciplined. Everybody is well coached -- everybody is wired to be a Michigan man. We're coached great by our head coach and all of our position coaches. And it's easy when you have coachable guys and great guys to play with and to play for. We play for each other."
The Wolverines should also be getting back star edge rusher Mike Morris, for their Fiesta Bowl matchup against TCU.
Morris leads Michigan in sacks on the season with 7.5. He also has recorded 21 total tackles and 11 tackles for loss.
Morris reportedly didn't appear to be limited in the media portion of practice after suffering a lower-body injury in the team matchup against Ohio State. Expect Morris to be full go ahead of the team's big game.
Michigan is favored by 7.5 points against TCU, and the over/under is 58.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
