Mets Injury Report: Max Scherzer Dealing With "Moderate to High Grade" Oblique Strain

The Mets will now be down two Cy Young-caliber starters for a significant part of the season.

Max Scherzer Injury Update

An MRI revealed Scherzer is dealing with a “moderate to high-grade” oblique strain after leaving Wednesday's contest.

Scherzer told reporters he was hopeful it wasn't a major strain, but that is clearly not the case.

He is projected to miss the next 6-to-8 weeks, a timeline the Pro Baseball Docs agree with.

Trunk rotation is key for a starting pitcher and soft tissue injuries notoriously linger.

The Mets will likely treat Scherzer with velvet gloves in easing him back to the mound, potentially opting for the 60-day IL.

Here's his exit Wednesday, with him signaling to the dugout that he needed a replacement.

Injury Impact on Mets

Jacob deGrom has not pitched yet this season and still appears to be a longshot to return before the All-Star break.

The loss of Scherzer as well puts a big strain on the rotation, which was already made thin by Tylor Megill going on the 15-day IL.

Mets World Series Odds

At 25-14, the Mets have a six-game lead on the NL East. They are at -185 to win the division and +800 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
