The star Mets shortstop was returning to his hotel room from a massage and accidentally jammed his finger in the door leading to what manager Buck Showalter described as “a form of” fracture in his finger.
Our team of Pro Baseball Docs opine that Lindor is likely dealing with a tuft fracture in his right middle finger and fortunately this type of fracture does not require surgery meaning he should continue to play through after missing just one game after getting the finger stuck in his suite double doors.
Lindor is satisfied with his throwing grip with the issue being on his dominant hand and has started at SS since Friday.
On offense, the switch hitter admitted the finger is “not the same as it was three days ago but good enough” and after an 0-4 outing Friday, launched a HR Saturday night.
The stud shortstop should continue to show no ill effects on both sides of the diamond meaning fantasy owners and DFS players (FanDuel $4,000) should have no issue throwing him in the lineup as his SIC score is a gleaming 92.
The one thing to worry about is the bad voodoo surrounding the Mets with star free agent signing SP Matt Scherzer also suffering a freak injury when his dog bit his throwing hand. The former Diamondback will also be fine after taking a day off from pitching. The incident will not delay a return form the IL where the big money pitcher currently sits after a strained oblique caused him to leave his start prematurely May 18.
