Max Scherzer Moved to 60-day IL

The Texas Rangers moved pitcher Max Scherzer to the 60-day IL further pushing his season debut. Following Scherzer's promising rehab appearance on April 24, expectations were high for his potential rotation comeback this month. However, a setback arose when he was pulled from his next scheduled rehab start six days later due to right thumb soreness, later diagnosed as a nerve issue extending to his right triceps.

To address the pain, Scherzer underwent cortisone and Botox injections to his shoulder and neck area on May 9.

"It's aggravating to deal with this, but we are talking about your nerves," Scherzer said. "You can be screwing up your arm for the rest of your life. We've got to figure out a way to manage it."

On Wednesday the Rangers transitioned Scherzer from the 15-day to the 60-day IL.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy noted Scherzer's improved condition but remained cautious. "We just backed him off some," Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. "I will say he's feeling better."

While the earliest activation date for Scherzer is now set for May 28, his readiness to pitch this season remains uncertain.
