Update: Unfortunately the injury was as severe as it seemed by video. Maason Smith will reportedly miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
Louisiana State University sophomore defensive tackle Maason Smith left Sunday's 1-point loss to Florida State with an apparent left knee injury.
By video, our panel of doctors have significant worry that Smith suffered a torn ACL when he landed from a celebratory jump and his knee turned inward.
Smith immediately left to the locker room and returned to the sideline on crutches and in street clothes.
Smith will reportedly undergo an MRI Monday to check the extent of the damage to his knee.
It's possible his knee injury isn't as bad as it seemed on video and our College Football Docs hope that is the case.
If the ACL tear is confirmed, he would be out for the season and likely limited in the early part of next season.
The 2024 NFL draft prospect was a Freshman All-American and made the Freshman All-SEC team last season.
He had a combined 19 tackles with 5 tackles for a loss and 4 sacks.
If Smith is out for the season, the Tigers will have to rely on sophomore Mekhi Wingo and redshirt-sophomore Jacobian Guillory to replace his production.
