Malik Cunningham suffered a hand injury last week against James Madison University. This week he plays ACC rival Clemson in one of the biggest games for the Louisville Cardinals this season. His coach talked about this injury at his weekly press conference.
“Malik did ding his hand, his non-throwing hand, but he’s fine. He’ll be out there practicing this week and will be out there today,” Satterfield said.
But, he did explain that the severity of the injury is not known yet, and they aren’t sure when he sustained the injury. Luckily, for Cunningham, the injury happened to his non-throwing hand, which should lead the team to expect him to play unless they find a broken bone in his hand.
His offensive coordinator, Lance Taylor, said that he is “not concerned at all” about Cunningham missing their next game, and he is expected to practice this week.
Also, the injury shouldn’t affect his ability to throw the ball accurately. This was displayed in his last performance against James Madison when he threw 14-of-20 for 223 yards and three touchdowns.
This has been one of Cunningham’s best seasons, throwing 1,477 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions while rushing for 541 yards and 11 touchdowns. He’s only missed one game this season, and that was after suffering a concussion.
Furthermore, he broke Lamar Jackson’s school record of 119 career touchdowns against James Madison.
Clemson is favored by 7 points at home against Louisville, and the over/under is 51.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
