The Lakers offered an encouraging update Thursday on LeBron James, announcing that the star forward has been cleared to resume basketball activities as he continues recovering from a sciatic nerve issue. James will begin ramping up toward full 5-on-5 work and will be re-evaluated in one to two weeks to assess how his body responds to increased workload.

James, who has been sidelined as the Lakers opened the season 7–2, will not join the team on its upcoming five-game road trip beginning Saturday in Atlanta. The earliest potential return date would be after the trip, when Los Angeles hosts the Utah Jazz on Nov. 18.

Team officials have not expressed concern about long-term complications. Pro Football Doc, Dr. David Chao, has suggested the situation may be tied more to load management than a significant structural injury.

Los Angeles has managed injuries throughout its hot start. Luka Dončić missed four games with a lower leg issue, while Austin Reaves sat out the past two contests due to groin soreness.

Coach JJ Redick said last week that the team hoped James would return sometime in the second or third week of November. When he does, James will become the first player in NBA history to appear in a 23rd season.
