Kansas Jayhawks, junior forward KJ Adams suffered an Achilles injury during their NCAA Tournament game on Thursday. The injury occurred late in the second half as Adams drove to the basket and collapsed in clear pain, clutching his lower right leg. By video, Dr. David Chao @profootballdoc suspected Adams tore his Achilles.
The team confirmed the diagnosis shortly after the game, with head coach Bill Self saying, "He’s got an Achilles injury. I’m not sure it’s going to be great news... To see him potentially lose a year on top of the game, that’s a tough blow.”
Adams had been a key piece for the Jayhawks all season, averaging 9.2 pts 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists
His absence was felt immediately, as Kansas struggled to maintain momentum and eventually fell short in their tournament run.
The timeline for recovery from an Achilles tear typically ranges from 9 to 12 months, meaning Adams faces a lengthy rehab process.
Kansas was eliminated by Arkansas in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament losing 79-72.
