Buffalo Bills' dynamic quarterback Josh Allen said on Monday that he altered his throwing mechanics over the second half of the season to compensate for the “pretty bothersome” right elbow UCL sprain that he suffered in Week 9.
The Pro Football Docs corroborate Allen's conservative recovery plan that hinges on rest and he should be healthy in time for the 2023 season without undergoing surgery.
The expressive 26-year-old played through the injury despite distinct discomfort and noted concern from the Pro Football Docs that his caution-to-the-wind style would put him in danger of a hit to the elbow that could worsen the injury.
Over the final eight regular season games Allen threw for 1,880 yards with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions on 62.45% completion and 7.17 adjusted yards per attempt and rushed 62 times for 370 yards and three more scores.
The Bills finished on a seven-game winning streak but Allen's production was down across the board from his first eight contests, notably his 2,403 passing yards on 8.13 AY/A.
The full-tilt quarterback was healed by Wild Card weekend and noted during his exit press conference on Monday that “two weeks ago… felt like I got back to mechanically what I like."
Allen was still erratic in two snowy playoff games, scoring four total touchdowns but committing four turnovers on 59.3% completion and a 9% sack rate.
