Update 8/17: Tyson is expected to be sidelined for two months and could start the season on injured reserve.

New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson is dealing with a right hamstring injury that could threaten his availability for the start of the 2026 regular season.

Tyson suffered the injury during Thursday's joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Saints head coach Kellen Moore declined to provide a specific return timeline and acknowledged the injury "could" potentially linger into Week 1.

The latest injury is notable given Tyson's hamstring history, although Moore said the current issue is not related to the hamstring injury that affected Tyson during his final college season.

Pro Football Doc Concerned About Tyson's Hamstring

Despite the Saints indicating this is a separate injury, Pro Football Doc believes Tyson's history and the decision to seek multiple medical opinions raise concern about the nature of the latest setback.

"Have to suspect it is same/similar to his previous hamstring issues as no reason for multiple opinions otherwise," Pro Football Doc said. "Hamstring surgeries are rare but that may be a consideration now. Hope he can return ASAP but start of season seems in doubt."

Surgery has not been confirmed, and the Saints have not announced a definitive diagnosis or recovery timeline.

Jordyn Tyson's Previous Hamstring Injury

Tyson's final season at Arizona State ended because of a hamstring strain that caused him to miss the final three games of the 2025 college season. The injury also prevented him from participating in pre-draft workouts and the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Saints continued to manage Tyson's recovery during the offseason, with the rookie receiver limited primarily to walkthroughs, 7-on-7 work and rehabilitation during rookie minicamp and OTAs.

Before training camp opened, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said Tyson had fully recovered from the previous hamstring injury and was "good to go."

That makes Thursday's right hamstring injury a new setback after Tyson had been cleared to return to full football activity.

When Will Jordyn Tyson Return?

There is currently no definitive return timeline for Tyson's right hamstring injury. Moore acknowledged that the injury could linger into the regular season, putting Tyson's availability for Week 1 in question.

Pro Football Doc also believes the start of the season is in doubt and noted that Tyson seeking multiple medical opinions raises concern given his previous hamstring problems.

For now, Tyson should be considered questionable for Week 1, with his return timeline dependent on further medical evaluation.
