During one of Seattle’s recent practices, Jamal Adams broke his finger after getting it stuck in a helmet. So far, he’s been practicing with a club and is planning to wear a “special cast” on game days.

It’s unusual for a safety to opt for the cast all season instead of getting surgery on the finger and returning in two-to-four weeks, according to our team of Pro Football Docs.

That is a long time to play with a club/cast. Might make more sense to fix it, return in 2 weeks and play just early part of season one handed. 🤷‍♂️

#Seahawks S Jamal Adams, who broke a finger during a recent practice when it got stuck in a helmet, is expected to be back practicing with a club and a special cast for games, sources say. If he has surgery, which is likely, the plan is for it to be in the offseason.

Finger Injury History

This isn’t the first time Adams has faced an injury to one of his fingers. He reportedly dislocated his middle and ring finger for the first time in week 2 of the 2020 season. He said he dislocated both fingers 10-12 times.

Going into his second season, Adams underwent shoulder and left finger surgeries. He was ready for the start of the season but didn’t finish the season. After the season, he revealed he had fusion surgery on the left middle/ring finger after recurring dislocations, and he can’t bend his fingers anymore.

Since coming to Seattle, Adams has declined significantly since being regarded as one of the best young safeties in the NFL.
Both seasons he’s had a career-high in allowed yards after the catch, according to Pro Football Focus.

He’s also struggled to make interceptions. Planning to play with the cast will make it impossible to wrap up with his left hand.

Adam’s career in the NFL has been rife with controversy. First, multiple arguments with the New York Jets front office. Then getting traded to Seattle for a ton of draft capital, Adams signed a 4-yr, $72 million deal to become the highest-paid safety in NFL history.

Since that contract, Adams has only played 24 games in two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, failing to finish the season with the team both years.
