Update: The analysis from our panel of doctors was confirmed by reports Monday, Lebron James will miss a few weeks despite finishing the game and his return timeline will be evaluated at that point.
Lakers superstar Lebron James shook off a right foot injury en route to the team’s biggest comeback win since 2002, a 111-108 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
While James finished Sunday’s game after suffering a right foot injury in the third quarter, he was clearly favoring it postgame and had reduced mobility during the fourth quarter, according to the Pro Basketball Docs.
Based on video of the injury and James saying he “heard it pop,” the injury appeared to be a partial tear of the plantar fascia, according to the Pro Basketball Docs.
In the game, James was seen receiving general rehab to the peroneal tendon, a common treatment to compensate for the effects of plantar fasciitis.
Although he finished the game, the 4-time MVP is likely to miss games for the Lakers, who currently sit a game out of the 10 spot in the Western Conference.
While his injury does not require surgery, it is also not going away anytime soon and must be managed through rest and rehab during the course of the season, according to the Pro Basketball Docs.
He will likely require load management for the right foot injury and may have to miss back-to-backs the remainder of the season.
James has landed on the injury report for a majority of the season with left foot soreness, but this issue to the right foot is a bigger deal and will require more caution than the left. It is also more painful to play through.
He finished the game with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists in 37 minutes.
James is averaging 29.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 7 assists on the season while shooting 50.3% from the field and 31% from 3.
Los Angeles is in the midst of a three-game road trip before heading home to Crypto.com arena for five straight contests.
They head to Memphis for a TNT matchup on Tuesday, then finish the road trip in Oklahoma City on Wednesday. The Minnesota Timberwolves visit L.A. on Friday, then the Warriors come to town for a matinee matchup on Sunday.
Los Angeles is at +4200 to win the NBA Finals, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. James is +12000 to win regular season MVP.
