Update: In another positive update for a New York team facing a potential major knee injury, the Giants announced that Kayvon Thibodeaux suffered a mild MCL sprain that will reportedly keep him out for 3-4 weeks.
Head coach Brian Daboll said that he hopes the No. 5 overall pick will be ready for Week 1, but there is no guarantee: “Fingers crossed.”
Giants' No. 5 overall pick Kayvon Thibodeaux suffered a right knee injury on a chop block and was ruled out of Sunday's preseason game against the Bengals.
Based on initial video, the Pro Football Docs believe Thibodeaux suffered a mild MCL sprain when he planted his foot and had his leg trapped by the blocking tight end.
If the injury is confirmed, Thibodeaux would miss the rest of training camp but could be healthy in time for Week 1.
Kayvon Thibodeaux Injury Update
Thibodeaux went down grabbing his right knee after a Thaddeus Moss chop block on a rush up the middle with around 11 minutes left in the second quarter.
The 21-year-old stayed on the ground after the injury while the Bengals' offense gathered around him to huddle.
He eschewed the cart and walked into the blue medical tent and, soon after, into the locker room.
In two preseason games, Thibodeaux has made two tackles in limited snaps.
The 6'5" edge rusher made 126 tackles with 19 sacks and 35.5 TFL in three years at Oregon and was reportedly in the running to go No. 1 overall in the Draft.
