(Update: Lindor will wear a protective boot on his lower left leg for the next week. He is scheduled to undergo additional imaging in three weeks and will then be reevaluated.)
The New York Mets placed Francisco Lindor on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain.
Lindor exited Wednesday’s game against the Twins after scoring in the fourth inning. He underwent an MRI on Thursday and was later placed on the injured list.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza did not sound optimistic about Lindor’s short-term outlook.
“He’s going to be down for quite a bit,” Mendoza said.
Earlier this month, the Mets placed Juan Soto on the injured list with a left calf strain. Soto returned in less than three weeks.
“We knew right away with Juan that it was kind of the best-case scenario, and it was going to be on the short side of things. I don’t think we’re dealing with the same thing here,” Mendoza said.
It is the third notable injury Lindor has dealt with in the last calendar year but the first that forced him onto the injured list. In October, he underwent right elbow surgery, which caused him to miss the World Baseball Classic for insurance reasons. Then, in late February, he fractured his left hamate bone, sidelining him for most of spring training, though he returned in time for Opening Day.
