Does New Info on Freddy Peralta's Shoulder Injury Change His Return Timeline?

Despite currently missing over half of their starting rotation, the Milwaukee Brewers have kept pace with the Cardinals in the National League Central.

Freddy Peralta Injury Update

President of baseball operations David Stearns recently provided clarity on starter Freddy Peralta's injury, revealing it as a teres major strain.

However, this new information does not adjust Peralta's return timeline at all, according to the Pro Baseball Docs.

Despite throwing recently on flat ground, the 2021 All Star is still at least a month away from rejoining the club.

The teres major is a muscle on the back of the shoulder and is crucial for stability.

Peralta's injury has been known from the start as a strain in the back of the shoulder. This update just named the specific muscle.

Stearns told reporters the team hopes to have a better timeline by the All Star break. That is still roughly three weeks away and doesn't bode well for Peralta's availability any time before August.

For now, the 26-year-old remains on the 60-day IL and will likely require several rehab starts to build his arm back up to game shape.

Peralta is 3-2 with a 4.42 ERA in 8 starts this season.

Brandon Woodruff Injury Update

Brandon Woodruff, who has been out since late May with a high ankle sprain and Raynaud's syndrome, will make a rehab start Thursday for the High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

As the Pro Baseball Docs detailed in mid-June, the loss of sensation in his right hand brought on by Raynaud's syndrome should not be an issue going forward.
Here's how Woodruff's last rehab start went:

Woodruff is 5-3 with a 4.74 ERA in 9 starts this year.

Aaron Ashby Injury Update

Southpaw Aaron Ashby was placed on the 15-day IL after being removed from his start last Thursday with left forearm tightness.

He's tentatively scheduled for a bullpen session on Saturday and is eligible to return August 1 at the earliest.

Forearm tightness is a scary diagnosis for any pitcher, but for now it seems Ashby will be back to throwing sliders like these sooner than later.
