Dillon Gabriel Injury: Oklahoma QB Leaves After Helmet-to-Helmet Hit
2 min read • October 01, 2022
After the Oklahoma Sooners suffered a heartbreaking loss to Kansas State, they looked to bounce back this week. That didn’t involve quarterback Dillon Gabriel getting hit on a helmet-to-helmet by a TCU defender after trying to avoid contact.
The vicious hit drew a targeting penalty against TCU, and the defender was ejected from the game. Gabriel appeared to lay unconscious on the field after the collision.
The helmet-to-helmet hit and his being taken to the locker room suggest he’s likely dealing with a head injury, according to our panel of doctors.
It is improbable that Gabriel will return to the game because of the NCAA’s protocol against head injuries.
Before the injury, Gabriel was struggling, going 7 for 16(43.8%) and 126 yards, with 78 of those yards coming on one play. The Sooners will look for Davis Beville, a transfer from Pittsburgh, to take over in Gabriel‘s absence.
