Deebo Samuel Injury: 49ers WR Ruled Out With Ankle Injury
2 min read • December 11, 2022
Update: Samuel has been ruled out with an ankle injury. He will likely undergo X-rays, which the Pro Football Docs expect to be negative. If Samuel has only an ankle injury it would be the best case. He grabbed his knee immediately after the injury and likely has a low-grade MCL sprain.
San Francisco 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel suffered an apparent left knee injury on a fumble in the second quarter against the Buccaneers.
By video, Samuel appeared to escape major injury despite his knee getting twisted severely, according to the Pro Football Docs. Based on multiple video angles, he likely suffered a low-grade MCL sprain with a possible high ankle injury as well.
The fourth-year wide receiver stood up briefly, then was carted off the field with tears in his eyes.
Despite the reaction, the Pro Football Docs believe Samuel escaped a season-ending injury.
He is unlikely to return to the game and will likely undergo an MRI on Monday. How long he misses will depend on the severity of the ligament damage in his knee.
The 49ers head to Seattle to play the Seahawks this Thursday and will undoubtedly be without Samuel.
He had 50 catches for 569 yards and 2 touchdowns entering this week, plus 37 rushes for 207 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
