Commanders' Chase Young Designated For Return From ACL Tear

Washington Commanders third-year edge rusher Chase Young was designated to return Wednesday, a big step in his return from the right knee multi-ligament tear he suffered last season.

While this first practice is a significant milestone for Young and the Commanders, it does not signal that he will be 100% when he returns to the field, according to the Pro Football Docs.

Young suffered his ACL and MCL tear on Nov. 14, 2022, less than a year ago. A typical ACL recovery requires at least a year's absence and Young is returning from a multi-ligament tear.

The Commanders have three weeks to activate him and Week 11 against the Texans is likely the first realistic target for his return to game action.

When he does return, it will be exclusively on the left side of the line to give him a healthy outside leg. Young had 7.5 sacks in his rookie season, then 1.5 sacks in 8 games before he was injured in 2021.

When he returns, the former Rookie of the Year will be a welcomed addition to a Commanders team that ranks ninth in the league with 21 sacks this season.

Washington Commanders Super Bowl LVII Odds

Washington (4-4) is +18000 to win Super Bowl LVII and +15000 to win the NFC East, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
