Chris Godwin Back at Practice, Mike Evans Leaves With Hamstring Injury

It's been a bittersweet day for Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans, as Chris Godin returned to practice for the first time since his Week 15 ACL tear but Mike Evans left with a hamstring injury.

Despite his return to practice, the Pro Football Docs are not optimistic about Godwin's chance to be effective early in the season.

Chris Godwin Injury Update

The 26-year-old wideout was sporting a hefty right knee brace while going through individual drills.

While it's great to see him on the field, he still looks heavily limited by his right knee injury, according to the Pro Football Docs.

Godwin carries a SIC score of 62, meaning you can expect roughly 62% of his output in a typical healthy season.

In late May, the Pro Football Docs detailed why he isn't likely to be near 100% healthy until the second half of the season.

On last Monday's podcast, Dr. David Chao reiterated those thoughts on Godwin:

There's a little more than a month until the season kicks off, but Godwin isn't likely to make a big jump in his recovery before Week 1.

Tampa Bay recently signed Julio Jones, likely as an insurance policy to not rush Godwin back to game shape before he's ready.

Godwin finished last season with 98 catches, 5 touchdowns and 1,103 yards in 14 games.

Mike Evans Injury Update

The 28-year-old possession receiver left Friday's practice with a hamstring injury.

After practice, Head Coach Todd Bowles told reporters that Evans “tweaked” his hamstring.

While the severity of his hamstring injury is unclear, Evans has a little more than a month before Week 1 and that should be enough time for him to be healthy for the start of the regular season.

Evans has played effectively through hamstring injuries before because he doesn't need speed to get open. That being said, the Buccaneers will likely be cautious with him in the preseason to make sure he doesn't reaggravate the injury.

He finished last season with 74 catches for 14 touchdowns and 1,035 yards, his eighth straight season with at least 1,000 yards receiving.
