After an offseason of cryptic social media activity, long-winded press releases, and a surprising Draft-day trade, star quarterback Kyler Murray made his appearance at Cardinals' OTAs on Wednesday.
Murray is publicly searching for a new contract after another disappointing finish in 2021.
The 24-year-old was noticeably limited in the second half of the season after suffering an ankle sprain in Week 8.
The Cardinals started the season 7-0, went 2-1 without Murray as he rehabbed the ankle, and went 2-4 after he returned before a 34-11 loss to the eventual champion Rams in the Wild Card round.
Murray had seven touchdowns and three interceptions and posted only two games with a passer rating over 100 after rattling off 17 touchdowns, a 72.66 completion percentage, and 110.4 cumulative rating in the first eight games of the season.
The ankle sprain he suffered in Week 8 was not significant enough to have impacted his play and mobility the way it did in the final third of the season, according to the ProBasketballDocs.
His appearance in the Pro Bowl was evidence to that, as he is unlikely to play if the sprain was severe.
He similarly finished 2020 on a somber note, suffering a shoulder sprain in Week 11 and leading Arizona to a 2-4 record. He didn't miss a game, but his mitigated performance, posting seven touchdowns and four interceptions on a 65.37 completion percentage and rushing for 200 yards and one touchdown.
As the Docs opined in regards to Trey Lance's admitted lingering finger sprain, a player of Murray's caliber and modus operandi will suffer his fair share of bumps and bruises.
If he wants to continue his evolution to the head of the table of NFL quarterbacks, he will have to improve his ability to play through late-season injuries like an ankle or shoulder sprain.

#KylerMurray left ankle injury on the gift "1st down" affects outcome. See how with the eversion sprain, he doesn't step into the throw that was picked. (Receiver didn't help him either).
