Bengals left tackle Jonah Williams recently underwent surgery on his left knee and faces a long recovery that could carry into the beginning of next season.
The knee realignment surgery should make future dislocations more difficult, according to the Pro Football Docs. However, he would be fortunate to be 100% ready for Week 1.
He reportedly is expected to be cleared before June, but that is clearance to begin the ramp-up process. It does not mean his recovery is complete.
Williams suffered the left kneecap dislocation in the Wild Card round, he did not return in the postseason before the Bengals were knocked out by the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.
The 25-year-old left tackle suffered a similar injury to his right knee in Week 5, but did not miss time. The right knee injury was less severe because he suffered a subluxation – rather than a dislocation – and it is his inside leg.
Williams played the 10th most snaps of any tackle during the 2022 regular season, but allowed 12 sacks (tied for worst in the league) and 43 pressures. He had a Pro Football Focus grade of 61.2 overall, down from his 77.1 grade in 2021.
He signed a 4-year, $17.6 million contract extension in 2019. He is set to be a free agent after next season.
The Bengals, who were sunk by offensive line injuries in the playoffs, have the third-best odds to win Super Bowl LVIII at +900, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Joe Burrow is tied with Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes as the favorites to win MVP, all at +700.
