Caitlin Clark Withdraws from WNBA All-Star Festivities Due to Groin Injury

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark will miss both the WNBA All-Star Game and 3-Point Contest after suffering a right groin injury late in Tuesday’s win over the Connecticut Sun. The injury, which occurred in the final moments of the game, will sideline her during the league’s showcase weekend, hosted for the first time in Indianapolis.

Clark, who had been named an All-Star captain and top vote-getter, was set to lead Team Clark alongside fellow Fever players Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell. Instead, she’ll be supporting from the sidelines. “I’m incredibly sad I can’t play, but I need to rest and recover,” she said. “I’ll still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and I’m excited to help coach our team to a win.”

Fever head coach Stephanie White noted the decision was made with Clark’s long-term health in mind, following a string of earlier injuries this season, including a left quad strain and previous groin issues.

Clark appeared to tweak her groin after a late-game assist, grimacing and grabbing her leg before walking to the bench in visible discomfort. She was held out of the team’s next game against New York.

With Clark and Satou Sabally (ankle) both ruled out, WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert named Brittney Sykes and Brionna Jones as replacements. Kayla McBride was also added earlier in the week in place of Rhyne Howard (knee).
