Angels' right fielder and leadoff hitter Taylor Ward left Friday's loss to the A's after suffering an apparent upper body injury in the ninth inning.
Manager Joe Maddon told reporters after the game that Ward is being evaluated and the team will update his status when tests were complete.
Ward ran into the outfield wall in right-center chasing down a flyball in the top of the frame.
His head rammed into the 365-foot corner that, as told by the Angels' Bally Sports broadcast, is backed by cement.
Ward could be seen massaging the crease between his neck and shoulder as he walked off the field.
Maddon replaced him in the field and the lineup with Tyler Wade.
Ward has been a breakout star for the 24-17 Angels. The 28-year-old leads MLB with a .370 batting average and 1.193 OPS, reaching base safely in 27 consecutive games and swatting nine home runs with 27 runs scored and 23 RBI.
