A’ja Wilson Exits Game with Wrist Injury, MRI Results Pending

(Update: A'Ja Wilson missed Thursday's matchup vs. the Washington Mystics)

Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson left Tuesday night’s 87–78 loss to the New York Liberty after suffering a right wrist injury late in the second quarter. The injury occurred as Wilson fell hard while driving to the basket, landing awkwardly on her non-shooting hand. She initially remained in the game but was eventually subbed out and did not return for the second half.

Wilson underwent an MRI on Wednesday morning to determine the severity of the injury, with results still pending. By video, the worry is for a scaphoid fracture of the wrist. Head coach Becky Hammon confirmed that the team is taking a cautious approach, stating, “Big picture, our season is bigger than one game. We want to make sure she’s good to go.” Wilson had tallied 2 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists before her exit.

A’ja Wilson Previous Injuries This WNBA Season

This marks the second time Wilson has missed action this season. In mid-June, she was placed in concussion protocol after taking a hit to the face and missed three games. Despite those setbacks, the three-time WNBA MVP has put together another dominant campaign, averaging 21.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game through 15 appearances.

Impact and Analysis

With the Aces hovering around the .500 mark and the All-Star Game approaching, Wilson’s health is crucial to Las Vegas’ playoff hopes. Her status for the team’s upcoming matchup against the Mercury remains uncertain, and the Aces will await MRI results before determining her availability.

Hope she doesn't have a scaphoid fracture That injury often doesn't show up on initial X-ray MRI incoming with fingers crossed
