Although it was a disappointing first season for the New York Jets with No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson at the helm, the rookie quarterback had a strong receiver corps on paper.
Wide receiver and second-round pick Elijah Moore was a bright spot despite the team's offensive struggles.
Moore finished the year with 43 receptions on 77 targets, 538 yards and 5 touchdowns in 11 game appearances. It became evident to some, including the Draft Network’s Ryan Fowler, Moore has the potential to breakout in his second season in the league.
As Moore showed great potential, the Jets hoped to see similar star power from 2021 free agent signee Corey Davis. However, the former fifth overall pick could not stay healthy, playing in only nine games.
While both receivers finished the season on the Injured Reserve, they both are healthy heading into the 2022 football season, according to our panel of Pro Football Docs.
Last season, the wide receiver out of Ole Miss was forced to miss training camp with a quad injury, one game because of a concussion and ultimately the last five regular season games after sustaining another quad injury.
While Moore suffered two different quad injuries, our panel of Pro Football Docs said such injuries should not be a matter of concern considering they heal well and do not require surgery.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said the second quad injury, which landed Moore on the Injured Reserve on Dec. 11, was not related to his previous quad injury.
Moore – who led the team in targets, yards and touchdowns – will join fellow returning wide receiver teammates Davis and Braxton Berrios along with Jets' first round pick Garrett Wilson out of Ohio State.
Before his season-ending injury, the 22-year-old wide receiver was No. 3 among wide receivers between Week 8 and Week 13 in fantasy points per game. Our Panel of Pro Football Docs expect that to continue as Moore heads into this season fully recovered from last year’s injuries. That will of course depend on how much quarterback Wilson has progressed this offseason.
Davis has a lengthy injury history from a multi-ligament ankle tear in 2017 to most recently hip flexor and groin strains in 2021, but enters the season with a high SIC score.
The former Tennessee Titan was on pace for a career season with the Jets before it was derailed by injuries. He finished the year with 34 receptions, 492 yards and 4 touchdowns in nine games.
Reoccurring groin and hip flexor-related issues forced Davis to miss the final five games of the season. He eventually underwent core muscle surgery, which has a reliable recovery, according to the Pro Football Docs.
Since then, Davis looked healthy in OTAs catching passes Wilson. The multitude of injuries Davis dealt with last year were likely related to his core muscles, according to our team of Pro Football Docs.
The core muscle surgery should address many of these chronic issues.
Our panel of Pro Football Docs believe Davis, the Jets' most experienced receiver, is going to be healthy “for really the first time in forever.” His last and only complete season was in 2018.
