San Francisco's starting strong safety Talanoa Hufanga was placed in concussion protocol Monday after he reportedly exhibited symptoms.
Hufanga underwent a concussion evaluation early in the first quarter against the Falcons, then returned and played 49 snaps.
Given the delayed symptoms, the second-year safety will likely miss this week's matchup against the Chiefs, according to the Pro Football Docs.
The 49ers have suffered heavy injuries to their defense in recent weeks, potentially leaving them down eight defensive starters against the Chiefs.
San Francisco came out of the Week 6 loss with two other key injuries, a groin strain for cornerback Charvarius Ward and a calf strain for right tackle Mike McGlinchey.
Both Ward and McGlinchey are likely to miss the contest, but free safety Jimmie Ward could return and play with a cast after suffering a broken hand in Week 5.
Nick Bosa, who missed Week 6 with a groin strain he suffered the previous week, is unlikely to suit up and would have limited effectiveness if he does play against the Chiefs.
Kansas City (4-2) is favored by 3 points on the road against the 49ers (3-3) and the over/under is 48.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
