As the 2026 WNBA season tips off, the league enters a new era filled with championship expectations, superstar debuts, and just as importantly, major health questions that could shape the standings from day one. Every week, this column will track the injuries that matter most, from lingering offseason recoveries and preseason setbacks to workload management concerns and surprise absences that impact rotations across the league. With contenders already navigating key injuries and others entering opening night fully healthy, availability could once again become one of the defining storylines of the WNBA season.

Sonia Citron - G, Washington Mystics

Citron is out for Tuesday’s game against the Sky due to a left foot sprain, marking the first time this season she will miss a game. The timing of her injury is unclear, but she is considered day-to-day for Saturday’s game against the Dream. Alicia Florez is the top candidate to replace Citron in the starting lineup.

Dijonai Carrington - G, Chicago Sky

Carrington’s return to the field remains uncertain. After undergoing left foot surgery in April, there’s been no indication that she’s close to making her season debut. Until the team provides an update, she can be considered week-to-week.

Jewell Lloyd - G, Las Vegas Aces

Loyd missed a second consecutive game due to an unspecified left leg injury. Chennedy Carter is also out with a leg injury, leaving Kierstan Bell and Brianna Turner as potential candidates for increased playing time. Loyd’s next opportunity to play will be on Saturday against the Valkyries.

Sabrina Ionescu - G, New York Liberty

Head coach Chris DeMarco announced on Tuesday that Ionescu, who has been dealing with a back issue, will be listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game against Toronto. Ionescu participated in individual work on Tuesday and has a chance to return after missing three games.

Isabelle Harrison - F, Toronto Tempo

Harrison is out for Wednesday’s game against the Liberty as she continues to recover from a right thumb injury. She is still waiting to make her season debut, with her next opportunity to play being Sunday at home against the Sky. However, it remains uncertain if Harrison is close to being ready to return to the court.
