As the 2025 MLB season heats up, several teams are managing key injuries to star players. Here's the latest MLB injury update for this week:
Triston Casas (1B): Placed on 10-day IL (May 3) with a left patellar tendon rupture sustained on May 2 when he stumbled across the first-base bag. A long-term absence is expected.
Lucas Giolito (left hamstring strain) is set for his Red Sox debut on April 30.
Connor Wong (left pinkie fracture) started a rehab assignment on April 27.
Walker Buehler (shoulder) On 15-day IL (May 2) with right shoulder bursitis.
Kristian Campbell (OF): Scratched from May 1 game with right rib discomfort, out since.
Masataka Yoshida (DH/OF): Dealing with a right shoulder labrum tear; MRI conducted May 2 due to setbacks.
Tyler Glasnow exited after one inning on April 27 with right shoulder soreness, marking his second consecutive early exit, he was added to the 15-day IL on April 28.
Tommy Edman was placed on the 10-day IL on May 3 due to right ankle inflammation sustained in a game on April 29.
Shohei Ohtani (right elbow, left shoulder surgeries) threw a 31-pitch bullpen session on April 26 but will delay facing hitters until his full pitch mix is ready.
Clayton Kershaw (left toe and knee surgeries) threw 66 pitches on April 30 with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Fernando Tatis Jr. (OF): Left May 2 game after HBP to left forearm. X-rays were negative.
Luis Arraez (concussion protocol) is now symptom-free and was back in the lineup on Tuesday April 29th.
Jackson Merrill (right hamstring strain) is approaching the end of his rehab process, it is yet to be determined if he will have a rehab assignment.
Jake Cronenworth (right rib fracture) on May 1 has been cleared to resume baseball activities.
Jason Heyward (left knee inflammation) returned to the lineup April 29th.
Shota Imanaga was removed from the April 30 game against the Pirates due to leg cramps when he appeared to wince after throwing a pitch in the sixth inning, he is tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Brewers.
Jordan Westburg (left hamstring strain) was added to the 10-day IL on April 28.
Gary Sánchez (right wrist inflammation) was placed on the 10-day IL on April 28.
Tyler O'Neill was placed on the 10-day IL on April 26 with neck inflammation and is expected to miss multiple weeks.
Zach Eflin (right lat strain) threw a bullpen and plans another next week.
Salvador Perez (left hip soreness) left the May 1 game against the Rays, he will be monitored and currently day-to-day.
Cole Ragans (left groin strain) did not play in his scheduled April 30 start.
Jazz Chisolm exited the game against the Orioles on April 29, the Yankees announced he experienced "right flank discomfort" on a swing. Chisholm said Wednesday that he's feeling better, but the Yankees still plan to have him undergo an MRI on his right oblique Thursday.
DJ LeMahieu while recovering from a right calf strain also received a cortisone injection in his right hip on April 29 after he missed the final two months of the Yankees' 2024 season with a right hip impingement.
Giancarlo Stanton: The Yankees moved Giancarlo Stanton to the 60-day IL as he continues to deal with elbow tendinitis. Stanton has yet to play this season, and there’s still no timetable for his return.
Brandon Marsh (right hamstring strain) exited his rehab game due to cramping.
Cristopher Sánchez (left forearm soreness) threw a bullpen session on April 27.
Ranger Suárez (lower back stiffness) made his fourth rehab start and could be activated soon.
Josh Jung suffered a lacerated right index finger and left the game on April 27.
Daulton Varsho (right rotator cuff surgery) is likely to make his season debut on April 29.
Logan Gilbert (right forearm strain) will be shut down for two weeks following a mild flexor strain diagnosis.
George Kirby (right shoulder inflammation) could face live hitters as soon as April 28.
Garrett Mitchell (strained left oblique) is expected to miss about a month.
Luke Keaschall suffered a non-displaced right forearm fracture.
Royce Lewis (left hamstring strain) started a rehab assignment on April 25.
Matt Wallner (left hamstring strain) is playing catch but not yet fully back.
Paul DeJong (fractured nose) is set for surgery on April 28.
Matt Vierling (right rotator cuff strain) has a follow-up MRI scheduled for April 28.
Spencer Horwitz (right wrist) began a rehab assignment on April 27.
Ryan Feltner experienced back soreness and had his April 27 start pushed back to April 28.
José Ramírez (3B): Suffered a mild right ankle sprain May 2; timeline unclear.
Gabriel Arias (left hip irritation) missed the April 27 game as a precaution.
Shane Bieber, Trevor Stephan, and David Fry are progressing from UCL surgeries, eyeing a May return to game activities.
A.J. Minter (left lat strain) Minter may miss the rest of the season as he weighs surgery to repair a left lat injury. The Mets moved him to the 60-day IL and Manager Carlos Mendoza said Minter is also considering rest and rehab, which could allow a late-season return.
J.T. Ginn (right elbow inflammation) was placed on the 15-day IL.
Zack Gelof (right hamate fracture) will begin a rehab assignment on April 29.
Tyler Fitzgerald (chest soreness) was out April 26-27 but could be available off the bench moving forward.
Mike Trout (knee soreness) placed on the 10-day injured list after he was forced to leave Tuesday’s game when experiencing leg discomfort during a third-inning sprint. He remained in the game defensively for the bottom of the third but was replaced by Jo Adell when his spot came up in the fourth with two on and two out. “When I started jogging in the outfield a little bit, I started feeling it a little more,” Trout said. “Wanted to be smart about it.”
Nolan Schanuel fouled a ball off his right knee but avoided structural damage and is improving.
Yordan Alvarez did not play in the May 3 game against the White Sox due to inflammation in his right hand.
Lance McCullers Jr. (right flexor tendon surgery) threw 71 pitches in a Double-A rehab start on April 26, he is scheduled to start May against the White Sox in what could be his first MLB appearance since Game 3 of the 2022 World Series.
Iván Herrera (left knee bone bruise) continues hitting and could start a rehab assignment on May 1.
Kendall Graveman (back tightness) threw 22 pitches in an extended spring game.
Kevin Ginkel (right shoulder inflammation) is making minor league rehab appearances.
Eury Pérez (Tommy John surgery) and Ryan Weathers (left flexor strain) began rehab assignments with Single-A Jupiter.
Griffin Conine: Conine underwent season-ending surgery on his left shoulder Tuesday. The operation required both labral and fracture repair.
