Kentucky gunslinger Will Levis is projected to be the third quarterback off the board in this ultra-talented quarterback draft class.
However, numerous injuries limited his performance last college football season and has made him one of the more polarizing prospects in this class.
The good news: Levis is fully healthy and shouldn’t receive a medical downgrade from the upcoming medical evaluations at the Draft Combine.
His ankle, finger and non-throwing shoulder issues are fully healed and will not limit his performance at the next level.
If anything, his ability to battle through those injuries could increase his draft stock from a medical standpoint.
During his college career, Levis showed a willingness to battle through injury and even accept a pain-numbing injection to keep playing.
The University of Kentucky product talked openly about the pain he endured his senior year and how it affected his ability to prepare for games.
"It was a situation where each game, each each week I was just fighting every single day of every week in the training room to a level where I was comfortable playing," Levis said. "Practice was pretty tough because I wasn’t able to kind of get things from a numbing or medication stuff that I could get on game days, so it was really tough for me to plant and have explosive movements in practice. It definitely was limited through the games.”
Despite those issues, Levis missed two games all season – with one being the Transperfect Music City Bowl against Iowa.
Levis collected 2,406 passing yards with 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in his senior year. He had a 60.9 quarterback rating and a Pro Football Focus grad of 61.2 against Power Five opponents.
While the numbers don’t jump off the page, the physical gifts and toughness are clear.
Mel Kiper Jr. has Levis as the No. 1 quarterback and No. 3 overall prospect in the upcoming draft.
Here’s more from Kiper: “This guy withstood more punishment than anybody in my opinion. He got pounded, he had no help from that offensive line. He was destroyed at quarterback, his body was destroyed from the ankles to the toes to the shoulder, everywhere in between. This kid is tough and to get back out there and play, the offensive line being as bad as it was, he didn’t get any support at all and he still hung in there and was with his team. He was with the team during the bowl game when he couldn’t play, okay. He didn’t go prepare for the draft process, he wanted to be there with his guys.”
Levis will participate at the NFL Draft combine starting on Feb. 27 and will be present at Kentucky's Pro Day on March 24.
