Raw dual-threat quarterback Anthony Richardson figures to be the wild card in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft after an up-and-down last two seasons at Florida.
Right knee and hamstring injuries cost him multiple games in 2021 and reportedly lingered early into his redshirt-sophomore 2022 season.
The athletic redshirt-sophomore will undergo a full medical evaluation on both issues and the biggest concern will be determining why his hamstring strain lingered for over a year, according to the Pro Football Docs.
Absent a surprising find in his right knee, Richardson’s draft stock and chances of being the first quarterback selected – FanDuel Sportsbook currently has him as the third-favorite at +700 – shouldn’t be impacted by his college injuries.
Richardson suffered a right hamstring strain in September 2021 on an 80-yard touchdown rush and missed the next two games, although he was healthy enough to do a pre-game spring backflip the next week.
In late-November 2021, the 21-year-old tore his right meniscus “off the bone” against Florida State on a designed run up the middle and underwent surgery the next week.
He returned ahead of fall camp and gained 3,203 total yards with 20 total touchdowns and nine interceptions on 53.8% completion in 12 games in the 2022 season.
Richardson also went down with ankle/knee injuries several times in 2022 on scrambles or awkward landings and reportedly had to undergo an MRI after he hurt his knee dancing, although those all amounted to minor issues.
