Joel Embiid Dealing with Bell's Palsy During NBA Playoffs

In recent days Philadelphia 76er and reigning MVP Joel Embiid has gone viral for his inability to blink with his left eye during the NBA playoffs. It was recently reported that Embiid has been dealing with a “minor case of Bell’s Palsy.”

What is Bell's Palsy?

Bells Palsy is a temporary condition causing facial nerve impairment, resulting in facial droop. This condition isn't permanent and generally resolves within 2 weeks to 6 months. The cause might be related to an viral illness, as Embiid appeared fatigued in the play-in game versus the Miami Heat.

Will Bell's Palsy Effect Joel Embiid on the Court?

Although he is experiencing facial symptoms including mouth droop, his physical performance has not been hindered scoring a career-high 50 points in Game 3. Embiid has been seen wearing sunglasses during interviews to manage irritation, but the issue doesn't affect his vision.

The more significant concern for Embiid is his knee injury, but he's expected to play through both issues as the Philadelphia 76ers face the New York Knicks in Game 4 on Sunday, trailing the series 2-1.

Despite the Bell's Palsy and knee concerns, Embiid should continue to play at a high level.
