WWE superstar and recent free agent acquisition from rival promotion AEW, Cody Rhodes, reportedly suffered a complete pectoral muscle tear this week during the lead-up to Sunday night's Hell In A Cell pay-per-view. Cody Rhodes Injury UpdateWrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer reported early Sunday that Rhodes suffered the injury while weight training late in the week. According to our Docs, including several with WWE experience, Rhodes will be able to compete in tonight's scripted fight although the storyline and match will likely be adjusted to account for his limitations. How Rhodes responds to the injury after tonight and how WWE decides to go forward remains to be seen, but he will certainly be able to perform at Hell In A Cell. WWE announced his injury as a torn pectoral on Saturday night at a live, non-televised show, and he was replaced at the show's main event. According to WWE, Rhodes initially suffered a partial tear during a brawl on Monday Night Raw that spilled into the crowd, and it worsened while training. He is still expected to compete in tonight's Hell In A Cell match against Seth Rollins. The particulars of the injury have yet to be confirmed. He didn't wrestle last night and is hurt. Injury was said by everyone last night to be a torn pec. Hopefully only a partial because a full tear would mean surgery and long recuperation period and he's got momentum. https://t.co/eXFDV80KPc— Dave Meltzer (@davemeltzerWON) June 5, 2022 While painful, a torn pectoral muscle can be managed and played through. Earlier this year, 37-year-old Eric Weddle suffered a torn pec in the Super Bowl, but returned and finished the game.
