When Will These Two Injured L.A. Stars Make Their Next Start?

Shohei Ohtani - SIC score 94

The pitching/hitting phenom left his last start on Tuesday early because of a cracked fingernail on his pitching hand.

Our panel of doctors are not concerned about the issue and project he will make his next start on time.

It’s unclear when Ohtani suffered the cracked fingernail, but he exited the game after 6.1 innings and 102 pitches. He struck out 10 batters and hit his second home run of the night after being removed for the fingernail injury.

A blister would be much more bothersome for a pitcher, but there’s been no reports that he developed a blister as well.

Ohtani is scheduled to pitch on Monday against the Padres, according to the team, but could have his next start pushed back depending on the fingernail.

If it does get pushed back, it would only be a day or so, according to the Pro Baseball Docs.

Clayton Kershaw - SIC score 78

Dodgers’ southpaw Clayton Kershaw received a cortisone shot in his left shoulder to help reduce inflammation that flared up during his start last Tuesday.

The good news is he appeared unaffected during his outing, throwing 6 innings of one-hit baseball in 79 pitches.

The bad news is the team will likely have to determine the source of the inflammation before allowing him to retake the mound.

Kershaw said the plan was to shut him down from throwing for two to three days before resuming throwing and making a plan from there.

With the All-Star game rapidly approaching, the team may opt to give him extra rest and not press the issue.

Los Angeles is short-handed for starting arms, but Julio Urias will make his return on Saturday from a late May hamstring injury.

Kershaw is 10-4 on the season with a 2.55 ERA in 16 starts.
