Twins' star shortstop Carlos Correa will likely be placed on the 10-day IL on Tuesday before the team's game against the Astros, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes.
Carlos Correa Injury Update
His placement will be retroactive to Friday, May 6, meaning he will be eligible to return next Monday in Oakland.
Correa hasn't played since he was HBP on his right middle finger last Thursday. After he was initially diagnosed with a fractured finger, further tests came back negative and he has been day-to-day with a bone bruise.
Here is the play he was injured on:
There was optimism, including from the ProBaseballDocs, that he could return against his former team this week, but his recovery is taking longer than expected, according to Hayes.
Correa said on Sunday that he has to pick up a bat or even field ground balls yet as the finger is still too sore, but will freely take him time as he has “dodged a bullet” missing only a few days as opposed to eight-to-10 weeks.
His absence has opened the door for top prospect Royce Lewis. The 22-year-old infielder is the No. 44 overall prospect and No. 1 in Minnesota's farm system, according to MLB.com.
Lewis was 3-10 with one double and one strikeout during the Twins' three-game sweep of the A's last weekend.
